More Furniture Finishes

A few days ago I shared the dressers that I painted but at the time I forgot to  show you the finished product.
This one is a little larger than the other but it has great curves.I have sprayed it with a light coat of poly in a satin finish. I do have the wax but it seemed like too much work so I opened the spray can and I was done.
The smaller one was so cute and I do think I would sit one on top of the other. I have been working on a few more pieces the last two days as well.
I finished this custom order today and she seems so happy with it. I will be happy to get the space back when it is gone tomorrow.
I am so excited about the desk, I can't wait to see it in the Christmas room...I am dreaming of Christmas already. Since the shipments are arriving daily, no wonder I am dream of Christmas.
It has gotten to be so hot that I had to put everything away and forget about painting today but that's okay, I could use a break anyways.  Until next time!

A New Sign for Vyntage Barn, New Beginnings

Well, this morning my dh and I decided to put the new sign in place. It was pretty humid but we decided to tackle it anyways. I actually had a reason for wanting to put it up today. I knew that today was the anniversary of Mom entering  the gates of Heaven. She began her new journey today, 3 years ago and I wanted to celebrate a new beginning with her. I would not have the business that I have today without her help in so many ways. She always gave her all, she was a giver and even in death she gave her three children a new beginning. We were so blessed by her and I wanted my sign to go up to  give her the credit she deserved. I wanted something happy to happen on this heartbreaking day. My Mom started her new journey and I too have started a new journey.

I had a green fence that was leaning against my house. I loved it but I just could not see my sign being green. I had a lady stop at the shop and she said she couldn't believe my sign wasn't pink...me either! So the fence became pink and it is so much better.

Our new sign is so much better than the old sign. The black post help to set off the lettering.
We made a mold for the bottom of the posts and it will have to stay on until tomorrow.
DH had the holes ready about 37 inches deep.

We added quikrete to make sure everything stays in place.

I am loving the new look. You can see the old sign in the background.
As you can see, my sign had seen better days. As the days got warmer the paint decided to peel at an alarming rate. I was afraid to wait any longer. The original idea was to reveal it in October but when I thought about using as a celebration and tribute to my Mom, well, I knew today was the day.
I had a few decorations up but they will be moving over to the other sign tomorrow. Not sure what is staying and what is going right now.
So, Mom, if you can sense anything about this world then I hope you are feeling the love today...my love is as strong as ever and I will continue to hold you dear until we meet again.

First Try with Annie Sloan Paint

Thought I would share my first attempt with Annie Sloan Paint. I bought a small white dresser and decided I would love to put duck egg blue on top.
As you can see the drawers are white also. I used one of her brushes, you can see it in the picture. I put a coat on the the dresser and thought seriously about not painting the drawers. The paint went on kinda think but did brush out easily.
If you look closely you can see that I left some of the white show through the blue because I was distressing it anyways.
I went ahead and painted the drawers blue also and then I spray painted the pulls white. I then had enough paint to cover a slightly larger dresser that was also white. In the picture you can see that the paint is still wet but again, I think it paints on kinda thick. I did distress it when it dried and it looked pretty good. Somehow I forgot to get a finish picture since we were getting company and we threw them in garage. When I get them back out I will share a picture of them done. I would like to try the paint on top of varnish.

And the tree came tumbling down!

This is what we found when we came home from the zoo yesterday. A friend has stopped by and cut down one of our trees that was hit with emerald ash bore.. They had started to eat at the center of the tree and this big beautiful tree was lost.
This is what it looked like when we pulled in the driveway. They had cleaned up the debris and we were left with the wood that we will burn this winter.
This is a massive tree and today we tacked this project. We worked most of the day and made a dent in getting it cut up. It was a lot of work but we had some help from the kids.
This will give you an idea of how big it is, that is my shoe. We counted the rings as best we can and it was over 100 years old.
This will give you and idea of what we found on the inside.
My husband taught my dd to run the skid loader. She loved every minute of it! And it saved us a lot of work.
Hubby worked all day with the chain saw. Thank goodness that my Dad had given him his long saw blade to attach to his chain saw.
The carpenter ants had started to take over inside some of the branches. The tree was in worse shape then we knew.

And just for fun I wanted to share one of our zoo pictures. We thought it was fun that we were the ones in the cage! We had good weather and great fun!
I guess we had another busy weekend and for now I am resting. Blessings to each of you!

More Fall Decorating to Share

Yesterday was a slow paced day. I spent the morning working in the shed to start some of the displays but I was kinda waiting for a delivery before I did too much. I knew it was to come but I never know when it will arrive. After a few hours, the rain started pouring and it made it impossible to move between the buildings.
So I decided to work inside my home just cleaning and sweeping and putting things away. I finished the laundry and dishes and I even did a little organizing too.
I have not started to put any fall in my home (well, very little) I just wanted to clean and organize first. I have a few craft projects that I would like to finish. I decided to work in my craft room but honestly, it was so terrible because my hubby had replaced our air conditioner and he had left the old one sit in the middle of the room...for the last month. :(  So yesterday I decided I would try to move it with a hand truck and girl power. Now this is one of the those old heavy, large air conditioners. We have lived here since 2000 and this is the first time we have replaced it so massive would describe it pretty well. With a little determination and a lot of will power I moved that heavy, ugly thing. I took it around to the back of his shed because I didn't want it in view for our customers at the next sale. I was kinda proud of myself and that inspired me to work for about 2 hours in that room. I found another craft that I will need to finish and that inspired as well.
When hubby got home we worked on a cherry hutch that I have been working on for a friend. It is just beautiful and I will post pictures of it once we put all the doors and back pieces together. We were putting chicken wire on the doors yesterday and we are hoping to have it delivered this weekend. I need the space to begin working on the furniture for our Christmas open house which will be in November.
I hope you are enjoying a few pictures from the shop  and I hope to have much more to share in a few days. Enjoy your day, I am heading to meet my Sister today for some much needed fun. Blessings to each of you.

My First Tree of the Season!

Yes, that is a Christmas tree! My first one for the year. I found this little tree that I had purchased months ago. The day is dreary, I was kinda sad and I saw the tree and I thought..wouldn't it be wonderful to have the feeling of Christmas all year long?? So I put the little ornaments on and set it on a shelf in my craft room. I love Christmas and I got that from my Mom so I smiled and hummed and I felt better. But really many of my orders for Christmas are coming in and I am packing and unpacking so it has been on my mind!
I think this little tree is kinda a weird color so I may spray paint it when I have a sunny day!
But in shop I was working on a more warm and homey look so this is where I am going with that.
And my love of dishes, wow, I love these so much.
So for now I am back to working in my home sweeping and putting things away since I am having guests tomorrow.Wanted to share my little tree and a few thoughts before I went on with my day. I love fall and I can't wait to put that up in my home but for now I am enjoying the shop.
It is raining and humid so the air conditioning is blaring, the tv is on, and after my chores I feel like crafting today! Join Me?

Just another Day!

What a crazy time we have been having a crazy few days. Between auctions and garage sales, we have been so busy. I did get in a little time at the shop and I thought I would show you the mantle so far. I am going with warm colors for September. I started another area but forgot to take a picture for you. You can also follow on facebook under Vyntage Barn if you want to see daily posts.
While were were out we decided to stop and get some lunch before we went on so I snapped a picture of hubby.
As you know, it is always something....
We had a friend give us two bushels of corn so we put that in the freezer in between the sales.
And my brother and sil brought some goodies from their garden and we have been enjoying that too.
So today I am working on a craft and making out an order then I will relax...or go to an auction, haven't decided yet! Talk to you soon.

Aug. Sale Update

Wow, What a weekend. I sound like a broken record but it is true. We had so many new faces and they were all smiles. I had a wonderful complement from a man who entered with his wife he said that once you closed the doors its's like entering a whole different world. Now that was just what I  was hoping for. Everyone was talking about fall and enjoying the decor. We sold so many new and old items. I am almost happy to say that we did not sell any furniture. That will give me a break to get some of the pieces done that I have been storing. Speaking of that. I am going to be trying to do before and after shots like I used to do. I have been so busy that I had forgotten to do that at all. I may even share a few techniques as I go along.
I thought it would be fun to share a pic of our owl. I loved this wonderful owl, just too cute.
I make a veggie pizza for sale day so that we would have something yummy to eat but I did not get a break until after the sale but it was good for supper too.
This cute headboard was just a smashing it...I had to take orders for more too.
Here is the cage before the owl and a little china cabinet that was almost done it just needed the handles. So tomorrow I make a trip to a warehouse to try to replenish the shop and then tons of garage sales this weekend. Oh ya, I have to work on the shop very soon. Today I was working on putting all the summer decorations away in my home...cleaning... what I want to do is put out the fall items but I am trying to wait until school starts since that begins fall as far as I am concerned. Have a great week.
