Thanksgiving Thoughts and Christmas Displays

Sometimes when I take a break from all the busyness I think about the upcoming Thanksgiving.I am so thankful for my family and friends.  I am thankful for all their support and love.
Today I was sweeping upstairs and I thought about a Thanksgiving at our other home. The house was full of family and we were laughing and talking (and eating). Mom and Dad were at my home as well. I remember Dad going upstairs and laying on my bed all afternoon. He napped to escape. Holidays were not his thing. Mom was in the highlight of her life at the Holidays. She loved it when we were all together. She was the happiest surrounded by her family. For Dad, not at all.
I sure do miss them.
I continue to work on more displays for our upcoming sale but sometimes I just remember...and then I know that we have to make each holiday special because things change so quickly.
We will have a large Thanksgiving this year and I am thrilled for each and everyone. The boyfriends are all coming too and this will be the first time they are all here for a holiday at the same time. So much fun to come.
Today I am cleaning and trying to figure out where everyone will sit...and smiling because Mom would have loved this Thanksgiving. She is here. We use her dishes, I still have napkins that she purchased, I use her recipes........but most of all I see her in her grandchildren...their smiles, their kindness and compassion. Her love remains with each of us.
So as I work on displays, she is here. As I cook, she is here. My heart is full.
I look forward to Christmas after the sale. When I will work on Christmas gifts and Christmas cookies and the true meaning of Christmas.

More Fun!!!!

Dear Friends, I continue to work on displays for the next Christmas at Vyntage Barn. I am having so much fun decorating for Christmas. My Mom loved Christmas and would fill her home full of lights, decorations and cheer! She would have loved this little shop.
My dd is making Christmas trees out of books with glitter and a candlestick for a stand. They are so cute.
And this side table is just the right statement piece for a foyer or beside the sofa.
And look at this beauty. It will work for every season.
Like I said, I am having so much fun!

Chamber Window

I wanted to share a few pics of the Chamber window that I helped decorate. Unfortunately it was cold windy and raining so it didn't make for good pictures.
There are raindrops running down the window but his a pic of the manni. She has skates over her shoulder and a santa hat...neither you can see much of....
There are wooden trees and many paper chains.

This is the inside (back side). The windows were tinted so the colors are not true either....did I say that I don't think I am that happy with this window????????????

More Furniture to Share!

So dear friends, I think that I did share a picture of this piece when I first bought it .My dd encouraged me to try a new color of paint so this wonderful shade of purple is what I chose. I love the way it turned out. I am hoping someone chooses it at the Vyntage Barn sale. I would be so beautiful in a foyer too.
Here is a close up view of the detailing on the dresser.
I also had a special order for a sway and this is what I decided on..but then I started to worry so..
I made this one too...wonder which one she will love????
And my dd has been working on jewelry for our sale and I am in love with both of these.

More Finishes

I wanted to share some of the new items for Vyntage Barn. This dresser is just so lovely in person. My phote is a little blurry but you can see that it is just stunning. I haven enjoyed painting and finishing this piece.
My daughter is on her way to have all the jewelry finished up for sale day too. She does such a great job..
And I wanted to share my donation for the silent action that the Chamber is having. I wanted to make something that represented my business. I hope they like it. I will be helping with the decorating so I will share pictures tomorrow.

Preparations are Being Made!

I have been working on my Christmas decorations. This is a picture of my back porch. On Thanksgiving I put the desserts on the porch so the area all together and easy to get to. We are expecting about 25 people this year and we are more than excited!!!
The buckeyes are ready and frozen! The cookies and baked and frozen. The turkey and ham are also frozen. I am on my way to being ready for Thanksgiving!!
On another note, I am working every day on the next sale too. This year I was invited to decorate the window at the Chamber of Commerce so Vyntage Barn is taking off! I am so blessed!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Missing Mom on her birthday. I sometimes get that feeling in the pit of my stomach, that feeling that it is impossible to have another holiday without her. That feeling that she will pull in the driveway again. She would come walking up the sidewalk and pull a few weeds along the way. She would send one of the girls to pick up Mc Donalds cheeseburgers. She would laugh and cry with us. I get that feeling that I just talked to her and yet it has been so long. I get that feeling that I want to stop and I have to go....sometimes I just don't know how time goes on without her.
Happy Birthday, Mom. I know we would have been together today. We are together in spirit.

A n New Chandy and a Glimpse of Fall.

Thought I would share one of my latest finds! I saw this chanddy at an auction and I knew it would be coming home with me. It is cast iron and extremely heavy. My dh had to crawl up in the rafters and reinforce our ceiling. But it is more than worth it! I only wish I could take a picture that shows you just how wonderful it really is!
For some reason I did not take a before picture but this is one of the newest pieces to be moved into Vyntage Barn. I had been yellow but I knew is should have been gray when I bought it. It has a piece of marble on the top and it matches perfectly!
And I wanted to share this close-up of my little squirrel that my cousin made for me. I adore him and I don't think I had shared him this year.
But to be honest, my fall items are almost all put away for this year and Christmas has made a return to our home. I will share some of those pictures with you when things slow down. But today I am off to a craft sale and then I need to pick a few things up for my sale.
I had a few moments of listfulness this morning...but I am going to try to keep it at bay by working and planning and now dwelling on it!
Some days are like that.."even in Australia."

Working on the Sale

I am working on items for our next sale. This sale is December 6 and 7th and we are calling it Christmas at Vyntage Barn. I have been working on furniture pieces and other craft items. We have been to a few sales but mostly I am working on items that are in my shed.
This large JOY is so awesome. I want to keep it for myself! I know someone will take it home.
What a cute centerpiece. This cute white pine cone will make a big impression.
I also wanted to share a picture of my Mom's Christmas cactus. This is the first time it has bloomed since she went to Heaven. I feel so blessed and I know she would smile if she would see it!

I fixed it Myself!

Friends, I wanted to share my adventure today. I have never fixed anything in my life but for some reason today when my washer started flashing a code again, I was frustrated. It has been doing this for a few days but I keep forgetting to tell my dh so today I thought. I think I can fix it myself!
So I went to youtube and found the f21 code. It said it could be a plugged drain inside the washer so I looked under the drawer and found the screws.
I never thought about the grease..dang.
I went outside to get the tools but of course the size I needed was not there.
I found the next set and we were in business.
I got the three screws out.
This is the inside of the washer after the panel was off. I knew he said there would be standing water inside the drain so I started to try to unscrew it but let me tell you, this was the most difficult part. It was screwed on so tight and with my broken wrist still not 100 percent. It took a while to get it loose enough to get it off.
When I took the panel off I found the directions. Kinda a weird spot for them.
I put a towel under it to catch the water.
Really....this is what I found...how could anything drain in this mess?????

There was a lot more water than I had planned on! It soaked up all these towels and my slippers. But in the end the main problem was toothpicks. My dh wears one behind his ear (gross) and somehow they must end up in his shirt because I have the evidence...he is in big butt trouble!
I put it all back together, washed the towels and it didn't cost a thing.
I have no idea what made me think I could fix it, I guess I just thought I  could so I tried!!!!I saved us some cash and I learned something new!!! It is a great day!

More Treasures Found

I went on a little shopping spree and look what I found. I am in love with this little tea pot but then I love all of it too! I want to keep it all but of course it will be going to the Christmas sale at Vyntage Barn!
I have been working on garlands. I put it all together and then it will be easy for a customer to purchase it and put it right on their mantle! I wire everything into place so it is easy for them.
I have been adding a little sparkle and shine to each piece. This is my little place where I can work and listen to music and forget about everything but fun. My happy place. I am working to get everything done for our Christmas at Vyntage Barn.
