Your suggestions would be welcome..please.

What a wonderful day I had yesterday. I worked at the little gift shop and my daughter brought me a wonderful salad for lunch and spent the evening with my other two  girls. It just doesn't get much better
than that.
So today we are under a winter storm watch. 3-5 inches are in the forecast. I am hoping it is closer to three. lol Usually I love to bake when we are getting a storm but since I am watching my points right now I am going to try to occupy my time with a wool project. I have all the pieces but out but I needed the material for the background but I did stop and pick that up a few days ago..(remember I am working on destashing) i only purchased the background piece. I will try to take some pics as I work on it.
I do have a question for all of you. I am thinking of changing out our counter tops...what a difficult choice it is. I would love to tell you that I am going to put on granite but with a price tag of $4000 there is no way I will consider that. Truly if I was going to spend that much I would just replace the cabinets...lol
I am wanting to make the kitchen into an American Farmhouse style. I do have stainless appliances and from there...I want to change the handles, the paint, the decorations, (flooring is done). I am seriously thinking of doing beadboard on the walls??? Maybe 3/4 of the way up??? And the counters...well I have been wrestling with what to do there. I wanted black...my sister has it and it is wonderful but she complains that it streaks and is dusty. I thought about stainless steel but I am worried that it will seem cold....any suggestions??

I have always wanted to cut the centers out and use chicken wire to fill the centers. Then you could paint the trim any color. I like that look. I would avoid the stainless--too industrial. Beadboard is awesome. Go for it. It definitely looks prim/country. And I love that soft buttery yellow color but that's just me. My kitchen is a dark red called Foxfire and I have glass inserts like windowpanes in my cabinets......

We got our granite counter tops for a steal! I think about 1400 installed. To add the bull nose edge it increases the cost quite a bit. If you are willing to just have the slab for the top, it's a lot cheaper. See what options are out there. I like the bull nose edge better, but I wasn't willing to pay double for it. I think you could look around for a distributor in your area if you want to go that route. I've also seen people that have used granite tiles, and put them close together, and it looks good too. I love the country look. I have sage green, but I have friend that went with a wine red, and it's gorgeous.
Bead board would be wonderful too. Can't wait to see what you decide.

Oh Dianntha, what a dilemma! I, too, think granite is grossly overpriced. I had black countertops...similated slate...before I got my lighter one. It was very nice, very durable and cleaned up very well. BUT, it made my kitchen seem quite dark...my main reason for replacing it.

I've got black and I love it! It was a lot of work to redo the cabinets but, oh so worth it. As for hardware, anything that is a brushed, patina iron or pewter.... it would be subtle with the black and would be in keeping with your country style.....
